Superstitions show 2013

Me (on the right) with my two good friends Lucy and Sarah at the “Superstitions” art show, Stoneworks Studios and Gallery, February 2013. That’s my gambler’s good luck hat on the pedestal, Luck Be A Lady.

VCAC Members' Show 2013

I was so pleased that my piece Cosmik Debris made the cover of the Ventura County Arts Council’s juried “Members’ Show” advertising postcard in February 2013.

Splice show 2012

Me next to the glorious paper mache goddess sculpture created by my friend Sarah Jenks Flesher for the “Splice” collaborative art show at Stoneworks Studios and Gallery in September 2012. She is wearing my freeform crochet garment Pele’s Mantle, which was created specifically for this sculpture and this show.

CGOA Reno Fall 2012

I feel so blessed to be able to call some of the world’s most famous “freeformers” (people who create freeform knit and crochet) and designers my friends. Here we are at the Crochet Guild of America’s Fall 2012 convention in Reno, Nevada. They are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. (I’m second from the right.) I modeled Pele’s Mantle in the Saturday night fashion show.

Hybrid Classics show 2012

That’s my piece Crazy Night on the wall to the right. The “Hybrid Classics” theme at Stoneworks was art influenced by the work of famous artists. My studio quilt was inspired by a work by Hundertwasser, and it is hand drawn and painted on plain white fabric, and then quilted by machine. It was labor intensive, but I was happy with the results.

VCAC Multiples show 2012

In 2012, I had two pieces in the Ventura County Arts Council juried “Multiples” show at the Ventura County Government Center. We All Shine On features John Lennon, and Not Fade Away features Jerry Garcia.

Stache show 2012

I created Cosmik Debris (featuring Frank Zappa) for the First Annual “Stache” show at Stoneworks in April 2012. All art had to include a mustache and/or beard, and everyone attending was encouraged to wear a mustache. Here I am with Frank’s famous facial hair on a stick in front of my studio quilt.

Stache show with Sarah 2012

Me with my friend and fellow artist, Sarah Jenks Flesher, at the First Annual “Stache” show at Stoneworks Studios and Gallery, April 2012.

Flushed show Stoneworks 2011

Me in front of my work Circling The Drain at the “Flushed: Toilet Seat Art” show in December 2011 at Stoneworks Studios and Gallery. My friend Michele Chapin and her partner Guy Wilson run the place and plan the monthly shows, and I love the crazy themes they come up with. I ended up donating this piece to them for their funky studio bathroom, which is an art gallery all by itself.

Rock and Reggae Fest Ojai 2011

In August 2011, my husband and I vended at the three day weekend Ojai Classic Rock and Reggae Fest in Libbey Bowl Park, Ojai, California. We had such a great time meeting new friends and hearing some terrific music, as well as selling handcrafted merchandise and vintage clothing. I love doing shows where I can enjoy live music. I have also vended at the ArtWalk, City Fest, and Paint Ventura shows in Ventura, California.

Cradle of the Moon SP 2010

This photo was taken at the “Picture This! Pictorial Quilts (and more) of Ventura County” exhibit, which ran from September 26, 2010 through January 9, 2011 at the California Oil Museum in Santa Paula, California. I had created this quilt Cradle of the Moon for a CD cover. My friend Matt Stuart had recorded an album of the same name, and he needed cover art. The quilt was reproduced not only on the cover of the CD case, but also on the surface of the CDs. At the exhibit, the CD was hung next to the quilt with a little blurb about it. I was mentioned in a newspaper article about the exhibit here.

Whimsy and Delight show 2010

Here I am at the Ventura County Arts Council “Whimsy and Delight” juried show at the Ventura County Government Center with my garment How To Be An Artist (inspired by SARK), July 2010.

Ventura ArtWalk Spring 2010

In April 2010, I was part of a two-day Spring ArtWalk in downtown Ventura. My work was displayed in the Topping Room of the E.P. Foster Library. I wasn’t allowed to hang anything on the walls, so I had to display my quilts on tables. It was a fun weekend, and every show brings new connections and new friends.

Homage to Hundertwasser SB Arch show 2008

This is my work Homage to Hundertwasser in a Fibervision group exhibit at the Santa Barbara Architectural Foundation Gallery in 2008. I was a member of Fibervision for about eight years, and I was in many of their group shows, but the members never wanted me to post photos of the exhibits because many of the members did not want images of their work shared online. I will continue to respect that, and this will be the only Fibervision exhibit photo I will post.

Ravelry 2008

Here I am clowning around with the founders of the fantastic knit and crochet website Ravelry: Mary-Heather, Casey Forbes, and Jessica Forbes. Ravelry was founded in May 2007, and this was taken at Stitches West, February 2008, in Santa Clara, California when it was all still new. At this writing, Ravelry now has over 3 million members worldwide. I’m so happy for their success, because they are super nice folks.
